They are a quality control website for authors and said "Wonderfully atmospheric and enticingly mysterious, The Twisted Vine is the debut novel from author Alex Martin. An evocative mystery that takes a delightful foray into the heart of France, where the best laid plans take an unexpected turn. A journey of self-discovery, love and tragedy that elegantly contrasts the essence of French life with darker and infinitely more sinister overtures. Cleverly constructed and written with an acerbic pen, Martin transports her readers to a transient world that she imbues with life through inspired character development and an ear for authentic dialogue. It’s a truly engaging tale which turns a simple journey into an all-encompassing adventure that tests the boundaries of courage and resourcefulness at a time of vulnerability. Impeccable in detail, memorable and enthralling, The Twisted Vine is a notable debut from an author with a bright future ahead of her and is strongly recommended."See Alex Martin's other books including the award-winning Katherine Wheel Series and a ghost story called The Rose TrailGo to www.intheplottingshed.com for more informationBook The Twisted Vine Review :
What a fabulously good read. I LOVE, love, love this book. Alex Martin snatches her readers up from their everyday, pedestrian existence and transports them to the sultry South of France. The sights, the smells, the local flavour of the French countryside awaits you in her new book, The Twisted Vine. Take a summer trip to the wine country of France as you enjoy darling Roxy's adventures. Ms. Martin's rich writing style creates fully fleshed out characters who you enjoy spending time with, the sterling along with the smarmy ones. The fresh dialogue makes you laugh out loud. The book is a time capsule of summers gone by, not too long ago, when life was simpler, without cell phones and laptops. You will find adventure, friendships, romance, greed, heartbreak, villains and a bunch of really delightful Twenty Somethings having a swell time at a tough summer job harvesting grapes in France. The Twisted Vine is a page-turner that you'll stay up very late to read, and you will wonder at the end how everyone got on in life. Any chance of a sequel? High praise for Alex Martin indeed. This was a fun read -- plus there is a bit of mystery and adventure. Well-defined characters. I feel like I've been on a mini-vacation to the vineyard regions of France, including some mountain driving and sampling of French cuisine. I didn't know that picking grapes was so labor-intensive, and have a greater respect for those who do that back-breaking work. // The writing was UK English, which I enjoy. Except for quotation marks switching from single to double, this book was well-edited. This author knows how to use commas (thank you Alex!), and it made for a very enjoyable read. This was Alex Martin's first book, and I see she has another recently published. I will look forward to reading it.
